The films “The Big Sleep” and “High-Ballin'” were both made in 1978 and the artist Tom Chantrell was chosen for the final artwork on both films for the UK double-bill quad film poster. The artwork for “The Big Sleep” is different to the Richard Amsel artwork which had been used in America and which was also used in the UK too. Chantrell’s artwork includes dramatic Rolls Royce car action, and the three supporting actresses including Joan Collins with the handgun under which Chantrell’s printed signature appears. This look was in contrast to the Amsel artwork which featured just Robert Mitchum as Philip Marlowe together with Sarah Miles. The Peter Fonda film artwork pictures the giant rig at a time when “Convoy” had just been extremely successful at the UK box-office. The Chantrell printed signature also appears on this artwork which again stresses the all-action thrill of the truckers and the car chases. Printed in England by Lonsdale & Bartholomew of Nottingham this is a rare chance to acquire a rolled condition film poster featuring artwork from one of Britain’s finest.
