Amazing still from the critically acclaimed 1925 classic silent black and white drama film “Greed” from director Erich von Stroheim. Pictured is Za Su Pitts in the role of Trina who is a lottery winner who refuses to spend any of the money and is engaged to an unqualified dentist. The director saw human beings as predators living in moral squalor and much of the film which took over 2 years to make was filmed in Death Valley involving a great deal of suffering for the actors. The film was planned to last 10 hours but MGM limited the creator in the interests of commerce. This still dates from 1928 seeming to have been released to the papers in June 1963 by the National Film Library upon the death of the actress and has a number to the reverse and a red stamp “OBITUARY” and “DEAD”.
