The scene pictured is the result of Billy making sure he can care for the Kestrel he has saved from the nest which is proving to be his solace from a terrible home life with a brutal older Brother and a sad school life where he is tormented. The scene depicted pictures Billy using his Brothers air rifle to shoot sparrows to feed his kestrel. Adapted from the novel “A Kestrel for a Knave” by Barry Hines the director Ken Loach produces arguably his best ever film “Kes” in 1969.
