The sensational ending in front of a white-towel-waving crowd of 19,238 fans was the Wild’s first postseason victory since April 2008. In 1997, the National Hockey League announced that a franchise would return to the Twin Cities and the Wild began play in 2000, becoming the first NHL franchise in Minnesota since the 1993 season. In the 2002-03 NHL season, the team made its first playoff appearance and made a remarkable run to the Western Conference Finals.
