Already one of the top U.S. cyclists of his era, Tyler Hamilton entered the pantheon of legends when he became only the sixth Americans to win a Tour de France stage. But this was no ordinary stage win – he did it with a broken collarbone! Not only did he ride miraculously through the pain in Stage 16, he carried the momentum forward to a 4th-place finish in the overall classification, beating the experts’ pre-Tour predictions for a healthy Hamilton!
